School has started for the year so now is the time for you to get everything in order so that your kids can have the best school year possible! Many of you started a few weeks ago with new bedtime and breakfast routines and some of you might just be my “let’s wing it” moms and that is okay too! I find myself somewhere in the middle of the 2 so I still need all the help I can get to get out the door on time every morning. Having to help my 2 daughters and myself get ready, especially if we have not got much sleep the night before, can prove to be very challenging! Check out our 5 Tips below on how we get out the door every morning on time and be rock star ready for back-to-school!
Prepare the Night Before
There are so many things you can do the night before that will make your life so much easier when you are trying to get out the door on time! We pack lunches and back packs the night before. I let my kids pick out their outfit, shoes and accessory’s as well so we are not scrambling and fighting about it in the morning. If they don’t want to do it, I do if for them. Make sure you check the weather for the next day to make sure the clothing you pick is appropriate and even set you coffee maker to have a yummy hot cup waiting for you. Anything you can do the night before (like showers) will help you not feel so rushed in the morning and help you get out the door on time.
Get Your Beauty Sleep
Everyone, especially kids, need the recommended amount of sleep each night to wake up rested and refreshed! You might be surprised how much sleep your kids actually need so make sure they are getting it. Take care of yourself too so you can take care of everything you have to take care of. Sleep is needed for certain brain functions like cognition, concentration, productivity and performance, all of which you want throughout the day! Getting enough sleep will help you get out the door on time because you will feel rested, relaxed and ready to produce! Don’t hit that snooze button too much, especially if you have already got the recommended amount of sleep for the night.
Breakfast Time
We all know breakfast is such an important part of each day but sometimes you just don’t have time to make a full- course meal so how do you make sure your kids get the nutrition and energy they need? I like to do easy during the week so we can get out the door on time! Prepping a list on Sunday night of what we will have every morning for breakfast and hanging it up on my fridge really helps us! You need to make sure you have been to the grocery store and have all the items as well on hand. I like to give the kids fresh fruits like bananas, apples or grapes offered with some grains like waffles, pancakes and toast. We also have microwavable protein like sausage, ham and bacon that can be fixed quickly.
Along with their fruit or toast, I like to serve NEW NESTLÉ® NESQUIK® Super Breakfast, because they love love love it and it a great way to have a complete breakfast. Packed with 12 grams of protein and calcium, available in Chocolate or Vanilla, it helps us start our day off right! I remember growing up loving NESQUIK® products when Mom would let us drink them so I am happy to pass this love along to my children. Besides being delicious, NESQUIK® Super Breakfast is made with 100% real milk, has no artificial sweeteners, flavors, or colors and a whole 12 g of protein! You can pick it up on the juice aisle at Walmart.
Have set locations for things
Don’t waste valuable time in the morning that could be spent on things like breakfast, reading or stretching trying to find your keys, bags, coats, homework and/or lunch boxes. Have a set location for all the things you need to walk out the door on time. Many people have a coat rack, mud room, or table by the door for this purpuse. I have the kids trained that when we get home the night before, they don’t leave anything in the car. They go right in and put their bags and everything else on the table in the entry way. Throughout the night as well, I put items there so we can find them and get out the door quickly. Nothing is worse than trying to leave in the morning and not being able to find your keys, lists, bags, glasses, phone and other necessary items for school and work. Whatever your system is, make sure you use it.
Don’t Rush
Set the tone for the rest of the day on a positive note! Get up in plenty of time to get ready, eat breakfast and relax before leaving in the morning. If you rush around like crazy you are likely to forget something and it might cost you more time in the long run. Rushing creates stress, even if its not apparent, and you don’t want to send your kids to school stressed out do you? I set my alarm for about an hour earlier than I really have to get up. This allows me to take my time getting up and ready before I wake up the kids. I am less likely to yell or snap at them and we all get along better when we do not have to rush around in the morning. Spill coffee on your shirt? No problem, you have plenty of time to change and everything will be all right!
Enjoy your day and this exciting back-to-school time MOM! You can do it!
