It’s pretty scary sometimes these days having kids, isn’t it? So many things to think about and watch out for. We have all seen and heard in the news about things that can hurt our kids! Many times they are things I have never even thought about before and that makes it even scarier. Although there are many things out of my control outside of my home, there are many simple things we can do to in our homes to keep them safe for the kids.
The Window Covering Safety Council urges us not to forget about our window coverings when childproofing our home. This is one of the easiest things and most overlooked things you can do to protect your children! Kids and cords kids just don’t mix! When cords are accessible to small children, these seemingly harmless products may become strangulation hazards. This is especially important with older window coverings that may not meet the latest national standard for window cord safety. If at all possible, use only cordless window coverings or those that have inaccessible cords in homes where infants and young children are present.

Spring is the perfect time to do a walk through of your house and check for things you might of missed especially as the needs of your kids change. I always check my smoke detector batteries around this time and go through all of the kids toys to make sure they are still safe and working. Replacing older corded window products with today’s safer products is a great idea as well. If you look for the Best for Kids™ certification label in stores and online, you can easily identify products that are best suited for homes with young children. They make it very easy for you!
We all love our kids and keeping them safe should always be your first priority! Our homes are their safe haven and will be used for birthday parties, family nights, homework and so much more for years to come so do your very best to childproof your home!
I try to keep all cords out of reach. Children just don’t know the dangers of them. They are not something to be played with for sure. The cordless option is a huge improvement for children’s safety.
It’s an area we forget so often! But it’s so important 🙂
I still get nervous for the cords in my daughters room and she is 6. I also get worried about blankets and plastic bags…yes, nervous mommy here. 🙂
Motherhood is definitely just one big period of worrying! I agree that cords can often be overlooked when baby proofing, but it is so important!

This is so so important!! All of our blinds in our home are cordless for this reason. Our daughter is super mobile and curious so keeping our home safe for her is crucial.
We have some blinds without cords. The blinds with the strings, I hang them up high so no little hands grab them.
