Working moms have so many obligations these days it’s easy to see how quickly they can become overwhelmed and over-scheduled. Work, kids, spouses, family and even friends are all things you juggle weekly and the ball might even get dropped from time to time. Good thing for you, working mom, there are ways to keep it all together and maintain your sanity! Having a schedule, one you can live with, is just the ticket for managing all the obligations that you have without going crazy. Here are our top 3 tips to help you Maintain a Schedule You Can Live With.
Plan in advance
Sunday nights are ideal for establishing what needs to get done during the week. Write down your children’s activities, your work engagements and everything else going on during the week. Use a planner, your mobile device’s calendar feature or a calendar app to keep track of everything. Make sure to leave time for things that might pop up and save some time for yourself. Knowing what you have in store for the day/week will ease some of your stress and worry.
Schedule each hour of the day
If you find yourself wondering why you have free time it’s probably because something you need to do has slipped your mind. Blocking out time and scheduling each hour of the day allows you the opportunity to focus on a single task at a time uninterrupted. It sounds rigid but knowing what you will do every hour is key to not overcommitting your self and getting things done. Remember to make sure to schedule a time to recharge and for self-care.
Know yourself
Our bodies are smarter than we give them credit for. If you find that putting in more hours at work is affecting your mental and physical health then it is time to have a conversation with your supervisor, colleagues or clients about the time you’ll be available. Listen to what your body is telling you and know yourself. If you are having trouble waking up or are filled with dread about an upcoming event then that is an indication that you’ve taken on more than your mind and body can handle! Stress from being overscheduled and overworked is not good and if you are not careful you could find yourself needing to seek medical attention or even worse, getting in an accident because you were distracted. The last thing you need on your plate is to find yourself saying I need a personal injury lawyer so make sure you listen to your body and know yourself!
Be well Mom and make a schedule you can live with!
