Traveling internationally is a stressful experience on its own especially if you will be traveling with your kids! While stress levels can be high and the unexpected can happen, there are some tips that you can implement to help ease the pain and help the whole experience go much smoother for you and the kids. Check out our top three tips for traveling internationally with kids and make it a great stress-free trip!
Choose the Right Flights
One of the best ways to limit stress when you’re travelling with children is to ensure that the flights you’re traveling on are direct flights, meaning no stops along the way. This is ideal when you have kids with you as they will often go to sleep on flights. Having a flight that requires you to change at a different airport can disrupt their sleep and for very young children, this can affect their mood for the whole rest of the trip. Make sure that you arrive at the airport early so you can make sure you can check in and get to the gate with plenty of time to spare. You don’t want to miss your flight and feeling rushed can add unwanted stress! Try to choose flights that are low cost as you could potentially spend more money when traveling with kids, especially internationally.
Make Sure Everyone in Your Party is Vaccinated
Vaccinations are essential when you’re travelling abroad, especially if you are travelling with children; as they usually have lower immune systems than adults. Make sure that you have fully researched what vaccinations are needed for the specific country that you are visiting as different places will have different diseases that could require multiple vaccinations. If you are unsure about anything when it comes to international travel vaccinations, it would be a great idea to schedule a consultation with a travel clinic that knows everything that there is to know about international travel and vaccinations. It’s important that everyone in the party is vaccinated, not just the kids because anyone can potentially pass dangerous illnesses and disease between each other.
Don’t Pack So Much
When you’re traveling with lots of people in your party, especially children, it can be very easy to find yourself over-packing. It may seem like your children need all of their toys with them but the truth is that they only really need one or two favorite toys. If you’re traveling with very young children it is important that you don’t stuff your suitcases full of diapers, as you can always buy them when you arrive at your destination and they can take up a lot of space that could be used for something else. You only need to pack enough to last until you land because you can always purchase what you need once you get where you are going. Many hotels will provide you with essentials for the kids, like a crib, so there is no point in packing so much that you are stressed out.
