I love taking pictures of my kids and hanging their pictures all over my house! It’s so easy nowadays to just snap and go since most cell phones have cameras! Pictures are a great way to capture special memories, outings and to keep our kids frozen in time since they grow oh too fast. Whatever your reason for snapping pics of your kids, we all know that sometimes it is hard to get that perfect shot or picture but it doesn’t have to be! Here are three kid photography pro tips you need to know to capture the perfect shot of your kids.
Lighting Matters
The lighting in my opinion is the number one thing to be concerned about to get the best picture! Dress the kids in clothes you don’t mind getting dirt and get outside with your kids. The time of day does matter because the midday sun produces shadows so after three is better or you can pick a somewhat cloudy day. Find a setting and/or bring props so the desired outcome can be achieved during your photo shoot. If you have to be inside than pick a light-filled room with white walls since natural light is the best.
Look into the lens
Keeping kids entertained long enough to take a few amazing photos can be quite the task and getting them to look into the lens of the camera, well forget about it! You just need to get a little creative depending on the number of photos you want to take. Hold a favorite or noisy toy above the camera for younger kids, bribe older kids with snacks and try to move around frequently are all ways to get them to look into the lens. I like to find a beautiful field somewhere and just let them run, play and be themselves. Every so often I tell them to stop, look and smile; nine times out of ten I am able to snap that perfect pro shot with them looking right into the lens. I also like shots where they aren’t even looking at me at all, a more natural shot that really captures the moment. Since your kids will most likely be moving around too make sure you use a camera that has a high shutter speed to avoid those blurred pics we all hate!
Enlist help
Trying to get and take the perfect pro shot is sometimes difficult depending on the age of your kids and the setting you are in! It never hurts to enlist a little bit of help! Find someone to come along to help carry things for you, make your kids laugh or to make sure your child stays in the place and pose you want them in. Sometimes we all need to enlist a little bit of help, like from a custody lawyer or photo editing program and that is totally okay! A photo editing program will help you crop out that person you don’t know in the background of your picture, change the color of your pictures or take away those little red eyes. There are some really great and free editing programs online so you won’t have a problem finding one to help your pictures look like they were taken by a pro.
Don’t worry, that perfect picture of your kiddo will come, just have fun and capture the moment!
