If you want your kids to thrive then it’s important to teach them to be punctual and alert. Kids need to understand what time management is and that being on time is incredibly important. Sooner then you think your kids will be driving themselves to school or to a job so it is your job as a parent to put your kids on the right track! Check out these five ways to teach your kids to be punctual.
Learn by Example
How you conduct yourself can have a major influence on how your kids behave. For example, if you aren’t the most organized and frequently leave things until the last minute, your kids will pick up on this. It’s important that they learn by example and see how important it is to be punctual and on time. Try and make sure that dinner is on the table at the same time each night and get them on a routine that works for your and your family.
From an early age it’s important to give your children rules and responsibilities around the home. When assigning chores to your kids you may want to provide a reward at the end if it’s done on time. For instance if your child finishes his homework on time you can give out a reward such as extra TV time. The more you do this, the more likely your kids will continue to finish tasks, which will eventually lead to them being more punctual.
If your kids aren’t getting a good night’s sleep they will wake up feeling unproductive and unprepared for the day ahead. If your child has to go to school in the morning it’s vital that they have enough sleep beforehand so they can wake up, get dressed, have breakfast and be ready for their day. If your child struggles with sleep it’s important to set up a routine that can help them switch off at night. Make sure to take away any electronic devices from their bedroom so they have no distractions when it comes to going to sleep. They need their beauty sleep!
Understanding Time Management
Teaching your children about time management from an early age is a good thing. To do this why not purchase a clock or watch for your child so that they can not only understand time but keep track of the time themselves? You can also purchase a wall clock for the home which can help you easily tell the time. There are various things that you can do to help your kids understand time management such as showing them how long it takes to get dressed or to have a shower. Doing this will show them how important it is to do things on time.
If your kids aren’t getting the hang of time management it can be all too easy to give up at the first hurdle but don’t! As a parent it’s important that you remain consistent when showing your kids how important being punctual is. When they enter the working world their employer won’t be so forgiving if they are frequently late so remaining consistent now when they are young and communicating with them can help them learn the tools that they need for punctuality.
