There is something that looks so effortlessly cool about a person with biker boots and a leather jacket. No matter where they are, they look cool, and that is all there is to it. People who dress like that wouldn’t say it was edgy, but that is the term that fashion came up with for it. And if being a little more edgy is your goal, here are some of the best ways to get the look you want.
What is edgy when it comes to style?
When they talk about edgy in the fashion magazines, what they mean is a fashion approach that is unconventional, different, and a little on the darker side in terms of color. The materials tend to be more rugged, and there would’ve been a time when you would only see the ‘outcasts’ of society in them. Now, though, leather, fringe, zippers, and tears and rips are on the runway all the time.
So, how can you leak a little rebel into your wardrobe and daily style?
Androgyny
Shirk the gender rules that seem to be everywhere when it comes to fashion – and wear cuts and shapes and clothing that you like. Mix and match feminine shirts with baggier pants, or raid the local thrift store men’s shirts section for oversized flannels and jackets. One of the things most common with men’s clothing is that it tends to be more comfortable and relaxed in terms of fit, making it great for that oversized t-shirt and skin-tight jeans with boots.
Sunglasses
Sunglasses aren’t always edgy, but there is something that adds some mystery when you sling on a pair of ultra-dark black glasses. Not only are sunglasses essential for making sure you don’t get sunburn or damage to the delicate eye area, but they are effortlessly cool, too. A sharp cat eye is a great start, but for some extra edge, check out some of the steam-punk options, too!
Thrift and Vintage
New items can take a while to get that comfortable feel, and the worn look that works so well with the edgier look. Thrift stores and vintage stores have so many options at some of the most pocket-friendly prices, too. While fast fashion has plenty of options, avoid choosing those if you can. The quality isn’t great, and they contribute to a much larger problem in the world.
Layering
Layers are always more interesting when it comes to fashion. And with an edgier look, it works all year round. Singlets with large shirts over the top; add a leather or suede jacket when the chill hits.
You can make it like Lenny Kravitz and go for a massively oversized scarf for even more interest.
Body Mod
Maybe you’re ready to make big changes, and it has been something that you have wanted to do for a long time. Perhaps it’s time for the short hair, a cute piece of tongue piercing jewelry, and that tattoo you’ve always wanted.
This isn’t so much about looking edgy; it is about doing things for you that you have perhaps always wanted to do, and now is the time for it!
Hardwear (Accessories)
There are more accessories than you can shake a stick at – and plenty of opportunities to mix, match, and stack. Rings are usually big ones; you can find ring stacks that have already been selected, which means you don’t need to worry. Over time, your collection will grow, and you’ll easily create a stack that is unique to you.
Chain necklaces layered up with more dainty ones can look incredible, and mixing metals works well, too. Though often it is silver that is most associated with an edgier look – if gold is what you prefer, then go for it!
Scent
Smell as good as you look with a scent not typically found in pink bottles. Florals can be incredible, but leathers, tobacco, wood, and moss are strong but earthy and complement an edgier look really well. However, there is always something to be said for the rich, enveloping smell of a high-quality option: Versace For Women- A Guide on Versace Perfume – Mom always knows.
It might be that a mix and match and layering of scents will, over time, give you your unique personal scent, aka a signature scent.
When it comes to changing your look to be on the edgier side, most often, one of the things we need to adjust is how we feel. Confidence is key to pulling off a look without shrinking back.
