I don’t know if our human minds can really understand how much God loves us. I often think how lucky we are that we have a God who is love. What if we didn’t? I would guess it would feel a lot like the current condition of this world….full of pain, death, tears, but worse…because there would be no hope. We live in a fallen world and the ruler of this world is our enemy, but our God, our Father in heaven, is L O V E. Rest in that thought for a moment.
1 John 4:8 “He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.”
Even though we sinned against God…He created a way to bring us back into relationship with Him after the fall. He could’ve turned His back on us and left us without any hope, but He instead sent His One and Only Son to take the punishment for our sin, therefore creating a way for a Holy God to have a relationship with sinful humanity. Like I said earlier…I don’t know that we can truly understand that deep of a love. Better yet….we didn’t even have to do anything to deserve His love.
The love of God is given to us a gift, because of Jesus, we cannot do anything to get more love from God or draw God to us. The Spirit we receive is not a spirit of slavery to put us in bondage that we could do something to lose His love or not do enough of something to keep His love. We’ve received the Spirit of adoption, because of Jesus; we may now call for Abba (Father)! We are now children of God, because of Jesus. We will find that people of the world will not know or understand who we are, because they don’t know Him. In our daily walk we can know we are coming to know Him better by practicing His teachings and loving what He loves, but this is not by our works or our power, this is only by the power, growth, and love He has given us through His Holy Spirit.
I frequently find myself comparing my relationship with God with relationships I have or have had with people throughout my life, and then I laugh….
People let us down, hurt us, abuse us, lie to us, manipulate us, and use us….but God never does these things. It’s hard to understand His love, but once you do….that’s when you REST IN GOD. I never knew what that meant until I wrote this blog. Trusting in God’s love is how we can find rest in God while still living here in this fallen world. I thank God for his mercy, grace, love, faithfulness, and L O V E. What an amazing God we serve. Thank you Jesus!
